Playful Mare Progress Photos

Now that I have her head farther along and other areas worked on, I thought I would share another peek of her.

Sculpting Progress:
* Head: The left side of the head is much farther along but still needs to be smoothed and refined more.
* The body doesn't have any muscle worked in yet
* The left front leg forearm has muscle inside and out and the knee is started.

KSmith Studio Update!

I just realized that is has been a really long time since I've updated by studio blog. I've almost forgot about it. Some exciting things might be taking place towards the end of this year and next year so I thought I would share. I have been so busy painting horses and working on commissions this year so I haven't been sculpting much, but I have begun to sculpt a bit more this week. Since after the release of Time Lapse, I haven't worked on any new horses because the cost of resin casting a traditional scale horse is a little tough cost wise. But because of a wonderful new opportunity (I'll share the exciting news later after more details are worked out), I've begun to work on my playful mare again and I've finished my little stablemate Paso Fino resin which might be resin casted soon.

It feels so wonderful and exciting to work on my mare again. A rougher stage of her was sitting on my shelf for a long while....   This is what she looked like when I got her off the shelf a couple days ago.

Today I think I've gotten most of her conformation worked out nicely and I've started to work on her upper leg muscles on the left side. Her left hind hock is starting to show and she now has muscle on her upper left front leg. Through next week as I get to work on her between painting projects, I think I would really love to see her head come to life more. As she comes to life, I'll be sharing more progress photos of her. At this point I think I only have about two weeks of sculpting into her. I think she sure is pretty already for being so new.

I'm already finding it hard to take my eyes off of her as I imagine what she's going to look like when she's finished. I don't have a name for her yet but she's a very playful mare that perhaps was just turned out and is full exuberance. I think she's going to turn out looking like a Quarter Horse mare. That's what I'm aiming for so when she's resin casted and ready to paint, she can be so many different colors.

Ohhh and for now... ignore the right front leg. It's just on the horse for now just so her position can be seen. That leg got a broken apart today when I was sculpting the left front. After I finish the left front leg, I'll be re-measuring the right front leg and working in the detail.

As for the little stablemate Paso Fino resin, I'll add photos of him really soon.
